Event 2: The Museum of Jurassic Technology

For the second event, I choose the Museum of Jurassic Technology in the Palms district of Los Angeles. From the beginning to the end of my visit, this museum really surprised me. Since the museum did not allow photographing inside, I have pictures of me in the gift store area at the entrance.
The entrance
The outside of the museum looked like an ordinary house, and I expected the museum will be a small scale exhibition. However, it‘s like a huge maze inside, and there are three floors with countless exhibitions.

It took me two hours to finish the entire museum, and I found a lot of interesting exhibitions. The most impressive exhibition to me is the uses of the microscope. The first part of the exhibition is the history of the microscope. The second part of the exhibition is about the microscopic paintings on tiny pieces of glass.

Microscope Painting
The painting is about 1 millimeter square in size, and I can only see the full image through the microscope. The fact that surprised me the most is the extremely minuscule size and it's very delicate and all the colors and outlines are well defined. I found pictures of paintings online.

The theme of these paintings is mainly flowers and vases, the bright colors under the microscope really make these paintings masterpiece. This project is a perfect example of combining technology and art. Without the microscope or the art skills, this exhibition cannot be accomplished.

Needle Figure
The last part of the exhibition on the art and microscope is also very surprising. The Figure on the Needle is an exhibition that artists made these tiny figures and put them on a regular size needle, and you can look at these figure through a microscope.

Another exhibition that interested me is centered on the theme of diseases treatment back in the old time. The piece titled Duck Cure is an example. It shows an ancient medical treatment by a real combining sculpture, which is another incorporation of medicine, biotechnology, and art.

According to the exhibition, Inhaling the breath of a duck was used to cure children of thrush and other mouth disorders. Another similar exhibition is "Mouse Cures". People back in days believed that mice can cure coughing and other diseases, so they will cook the mouses in a recipe and eat them as medicine.

Furthermore, on the second floor, there is a beautiful balcony with garden and fountain. This is the place where the visitors can enjoy tea and cookies and communicate their experience in the museum.

I will definitely recommend this museum to everyone. You can not only learn a lot of historical information about the significant inventions in history, and you can also enjoy the fun and bizarre exhibitions. The ordinary museums are sometimes boring, but Jurassic Technology is definitely not the one. It's an excellent experience and I will visit it again!
